Results of a strong stormWhat are the signs left by a flood? How does it change the natural and artificial environment later? This work wants to show details and panoramics of clear signs left by extremely strong winds and rain, mostly in mountain areas. In some areas of Bellunese in Italy, these winds reached the speed of 200 km/h, destroying about 41000 hectares of forest, about 14 million trees, so 8,5 million cubic meters of wood (all this among the regions of Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Trentino Alto Adige). Several experts say that this lack of trees will cause hydrogeological instability and ecological/environmental imbalances. Instead, the rain has caused the flooding of the rivers Brenta and Piave, as well as of many mountain creeks, which were responsible for the landslide of large amounts of debris. The surveys report that between the 27th and 28th of October, about 900 mm of rain has fallen.
This event has been considered more violent than a similar one that occurred in 1966 in the same area. Unfortunately, this storm caused the death of 8 people. These photos were taken about 10 days after the fact, mostly in the areas of the municipality of Rocca Pietore, Italy. |
